Modern Warfare 3 Specialist Killstreak Guide
In this Modern Warfare 3 Specialist killstreak guide, we will be
discussing the new CoD MW3 Specialist killstreak package in detail, going over what it does and the best
strategies for using it.
Modern Warfare 3 Specialist Killstreak Guide
The Specialist package is a brand new type of killstreak that allows players to trade their killstreak rewards
for perks instead of the typical rewards of air support or various power-ups in the game.
This essentially makes your character faster, more versatile, and harder to detect. The idea is that the best
players in the world will be able to make the most out of the Specialist package by increasing their character's
overall strength rather than giving them helicopters and guided missiles.
Modern Warfare 3 Specialist Package - Is it Worth It?
I have experimented with the Specialist package for quite a bit of time and to be honest I simply cannot justify
using it. It just does not really appeal to that me as while the Perks are nice, are they really better than
Assault package rewards?
I do not really think so. Every time I got the 8 kills required to unlock all the perks, I couldn't help but
wish I had Predator Missile, Reaper, and AC-130 equipped so I could use the Predator to get me my 9th kill and the
Reaper to chain my way to an AC-130.
Maybe I am just not good enough, but I think if I was better at the game, I would want more Reapers and AC-130
and not even worry about the perks. While being hidden from UAVs (Assassin) and aiming faster (Quickdraw) at the
same time is nice, I cannot help but think that being able to shoot laser guided rockets is better.
Modern Warfare 3 Specialist Package - Builds
If you still insist on trying it out, there are some builds I found were better than others. In particular, here
are some things to consider:
- Overkill is not compatible as an unlocked perk with Specialist. You need to equip this as
your starting perk 2 if you want to have 2 primary weapons with attachments.
- At the same time, is Overkill really that good to want to use it over Quickdraw or Assassin as a starter
perk? In my experience Akimboing Machine Pistols is just as effective as a Shotgun as a secondary. I am not a
fan of Overkill at all for this reason.
- You will want to select Scavenger as your 4 kill or 6 kill unlock. I find this is around when I start
running out of ammo - waiting until you get the 8th kill usually stretches my ammo too thin.
A Note on Hardline
I have experimented with Hardline as an equipped perk to start, allowing you to unlock perks at 1, 3, 5, and 7.
It is a toss-up. Hardline makes it so that your 3rd bonus perk and the final unlocked perk come early, but you are
also behind at the start.
Basically without Hardline, you would have an extra perk at kills, 1, 2, and 4, the same at kills 3, 5, and 6,
and finally Hardline would pay off when all kills are unlocked. Personally I do not like to use Hardline for this
reason with Specialist.
Perks to Select
For most classes, here are your best perks in each tier:
Tier 1: Sleight of Hand, Scavenger
Tier 2: Assassin, Quickdraw
Tier 3: Steady Aim, Stalker
These are the Perks that will really improve your strength the most, and as such, these are the ones you will
want to either select as your starting perks or unlock early.
For Tier 1, as noted earlier, you need Scavenger by kill 4 or 6, depending on your weapon choice. Start with
Sleight of Hand and keep Scavenger to Killstreak #2 (you can always move to #3 if you find you don't need
it).
I recommend starting with Quickdraw and Steady Aim for most builds. Select Assassin as unlock #1. I think Steady
Aim, Quickdraw, and Assassin are going to be your top 3 perks as is; Stalker is good but not necessary. You can
always set Stalker as Unlock #3.
Alternatively, if you are using something other than Akimbo Machine Pistols for a secondary weapon, you can
always swap out Steady Aim for Stalker from the start (though Akimbo Machine pistols go perfect with the Specialist
build - no need for a different secondary).
Modern Warfare 3 Specialist Guide - Conclusion
Even with this ideal build, I still think it questionable to actually use this spec - it seems like
top-tier players would get more out of getting extra Killstreaks than using the Specialist set. After all, the
Assault Killstreak package rewards the best players by giving them rewards every time they rack up big
killstreaks.
