Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger Perk Guide
In this Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger guide, we will discover an
in-depth look at the Scavenger perk, including how to unlock it, how to get the pro version, what they both
do, and the best times to select this perk.
Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger Perk Guide - Function
The Scavenger perk allows you to collect ammo packs from fallen enemies. When you have this perk equipped, blue
boxes appear next to the corpses of fallen players which you can pick up. The amount of ammo you gain from each
pack seems to vary.
Scavenger Pro gives you more starting ammo by tripling the number of magazines you start with. For example, the
Barrett .50cal will go from 2 starting magazines to 6 (20 bullets to 60) whereas an LMG will only go from 100 to
300 (1 starting magazine to 3). This means that in most situations you will not even need the actual Scavenger
effect as tripling up your starting ammo will last you for a long time with each life.
Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger Perk - How to Unlock
The Scavenger Perk is unlocked simply by reaching rank 39. Scavenger Pro is unlocked by collecting 100 ammo
packs. This only takes a few games to do, so getting the pro version is extremely easy. Even if you do not want to
use the perk it is a good way to pick up a quick 5000 points for unlocking the pro perk.
Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger Perk - Strategies & When to Use
The Scavenger Perk is a perk that becomes infinitely more valuable the better you get at the game. When you are
new and do not really know what you are doing, there is no need for extra starting ammo as most of the time you
will not use up all your ammo in a single life.
As you get better though, it becomes more and more useful. Of course, when picking the Scavenger perk you have
to decide between Recon, Sleight of Hand, Blind Eye, and Extreme Conditioning.
Out of all these perks, the one that competes the most is the Sleight of Hand perk, which allows you to reload
faster. As you get better at the game, Sleight of Hand becomes less valuable on the other hand. The reason for this
is as your aim gets better, you need less and less bullets to take down players.
With that said, as you get better you will ultimately want to use Scavenger with any fully automatic Sub Machine
Gun or Assault Rifle. Many of these only start with 90 bullets total, which is not very many as you can easily
spend 15+ bullets on a single player if you are both strafing or if they are just outside of the accurate range of
Additionally, many Shotguns and Sniper Rifles have almost no starting ammo, and you can burn through them very
quickly. This is especially the case with the AA-12, which only starts with 16 rounds. You must have Scavenger to
use this weapon effectively.
Light Machine Guns on the other hand do not really need Scavenger Pro at any point. With 200 starting bullets,
you have to go out of your way to use them all.
Scavenger & Specialist
If you are using Specialist instead of the Assault or Support packages, the Scavenger Perk is a good choice for
slot #2 or #3 (4 or 6 kills). This is about the time your gun will start to run out of ammo, so if you set
Scavenger to unlock at this point, you can start getting ammo just when you need it.
This is a good way to avoid the downtime associated with Scavenger as this perk really does not come in handy
until you get ~4 kills in a row in the first place.
Modern Warfare 3 Scavenger Pro Guide - Conclusion
The Scavenger Pro perk is one of the better perks in the game for good players. As you get better and start
living for longer periods of time and rack up bigger killstreaks, the extra ammo will come in handy so you can keep
using your gun of choice instead of having to swap out your weapon for whatever is laying on the ground.
