Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Perk Guide

Modern Warfare 3 GuideIn this Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Perk Guide, we will be discussing this perk in detail, going over everything from its function and how to unlock it to the best strategies for using this perk.

Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Perk - Function & How to Unlock

The Assassin perk takes up perk slot 2 and is unlocked at level 27. Its primary function is to make you undetectable by UAV and portable radar as well as thermal and heartbeat sensors.

The Assassin Pro perk is unlocked simply by getting 20 kills while an enemy UAV is up while Assassin is set as a perk. The Pro version of the perk makes you immune to CUAV (counter UAV) and EMP. It also gives you no red name tag over your head as well as not turning the cross-hair red when you are being aimed at.

Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Perk - When to Use

The Assassin perk is definitely one of the best perks available in Modern Warfare 3. Its effectiveness depends on the game mode you are playing in.

The more players in a game, the better off this perk becomes. The reason for this is that as more players join the game, UAVs are likely to be up longer.

Additionally, it is most useful in team games. For FFA-style games, UAVs are rarely up, and when they are, only 1 person is getting the benefit of that radar. Compare that to a ground war game where it could easily be 8 on 8. In games like this, UAV sometimes is up practically half the match. Assassin is extremely valuable in game settings like that.

Every class and build can benefit from Assassin. Using Assassin really comes down to whether or not you think that other perks are more valuable for you. Quickdraw is extremely good, as is Hardline and Hardline Pro.

Quickdraw is really good for Sniper Rifles and is also useful when you do not have Stalker set as perk slot 3. If you are not going to move around corners with the sights held down, you really should select Quickdraw for any Sniper Rifle, LMG, or Assault Rifle, at least if you enjoy the "run and gun" playstyle.

Hardline is also an extremely good perk if you are using the "low hanging fruit" Assault package killstreak rewards. What I mean by this is you can pick UAV, Care Package, and Predator Missile as your 3 killstreak rewards. With Hardline selected, you can get rewards at 2, 3, and 4 kills. When using these killstreak rewards, it is hard to beat Hardline's return on investment.

So when should you use Assassin to fill in your Perk #2 slot? Really, all small machine gun (SMG) users should stick to Assassin. You need to get close to your opponents after all for SMGs to be effective.

For all other weapons, anyone who is using Stalker as your Perk slot 3 perk can use Assassin or Hardline. Also, traditional Snipers (i.e. long-range snipers, not those using their weapon like an Assault Rifle and quick scoping) can work well with Assassin.

Your decision here is simply whether you want to go for the easy killstreaks with Hardline or instead go for Support Package or higher-tier killstreak rewards. If you go for the higher rewards, Hardline is not nearly as valuable, making Assassin your go-to perk.

Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Guide - Strategies

When you have the Assassin perk equipped, you need to know how to best use it. Not only does staying off the radar help you not get noticed, but you can and should take advantage of this fact.

When no UAV is up, people are constantly keeping their eyes peeled for players entering their field of vision. On the other hand, when a UAV is up, players then keep an eye on the mini-map and let their guard down when they see no red dots close to them.

You can use Assassin to take advantage of this by flanking the enemy's position and sneaking up on them. They will not be looking for you as closely, so even if you end up coming face to face with an opponent, odds are they will not be ready for you and you can get the jump on them.

The key thing about Assassin is to remember that not all of your teammates have that perk, so when an enemy UAV goes up, you need to keep your distance from your teammates (unless you have a friend using Assassin too). If just one of you is on the radar, the gig is still up - the enemy will be ready for you when you come.

Finally, you also should understand that the gig is up as soon as you fire a few bullets without a silencer as you will pop up on the mini-map. You can stay off the mini-map entirely (aside from Recon or Recon Drone) by equipping a silencer. This works great for SMG users, but may not be appropriate for Snipers or Assault Rifle users.

In this situation, you can instead have a pistol equipped as a secondary with a silencer attached. This way, whenever you sneak up on an enemy but are a bit too far away to knife them, you can switch over to your pistol to take them out. Just be sure not to run around with your pistol out - you want to have your primary weapon out if you happen to come face to face with someone instead of managing to sneak up behind them.

Modern Warfare 3 Assassin Perk Conclusion

Assassin is one of the best perks in Modern Warfare 3, but you have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of Assassin against Quickdraw and Overkill, which are also two of the best perks in the game. Stick to Assassin for SMGs, when using Stalker in perk slot 3, and for larger team games where enemy players are constantly using UAVs.
